#teamcorrie Cancer Foundation, Susan G. Komen, UAMS Cancer Institute named as nonprofit partners for Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout presented by PepsiCo

EL DORADO, ARK. (Sept. 8, 2022) – Organizers of the Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout presented by PepsiCo announced recently that UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute has been added alongside #teamcorrie Cancer Foundation and Susan G. Komen as the charity benefactors for the tournament.

“We’re proud to bring the fun and excitement of women’s professional golf to South Central Arkansas, but we also wanted to give back both to the local community and those around the state who benefit from the work of these outstanding organizations,” said Tournament Director Courtney Kelley. “Because our tournament is at the end of September and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we thought we’d help get the ball rolling by supporting the work they do every day.”

Since 2014, #teamcorrie has been providing financial assistance to help families offset the expense of medical treatment during their battle against cancer. The #teamcorrie Cancer Foundation was founded in honor of Parkers Chapel resident and “cancer warrior” Corrie Jo Gross Bechtelheimer, who lost a two-year battle with breast cancer on June 6, 2014 at age 35.

This year, #teamcorrie will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their annual fundraiser and breast cancer awareness event, Paint the Town Pink 5k color run/walk on Saturday, October 1 in beautiful downtown El Dorado. With a mission to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer, the Susan G. Komen organization is the world’s largest that focuses on breast cancer. In addition to research, it raises money for community health, global outreach, and public policy initiatives.

UAMS is Arkansas’ leading cancer research and treatment center, providing the full continuum of care for cancer patients, including those with rare, complex diseases. For more than 10 years, its nationally accredited Breast Center has provided free breast cancer screenings to more than 20,000 women in underserved, rural areas.

“We hope people will join us from around our state, region and nation not just to see these awesome athletes, but to sign up for the fun run or donate to help make a difference in the lives of families fighting cancer,” Kelley said.

Now in its seventh year, the El Dorado Shootout is slated for Sept. 23 -25 at Mystic Creek Golf Club, ranked by Golfweek as 38th best public access course in the nation. It is part of the Epson Tour, the official qualifying tour of the LPGA tour and has a total purse of $225,000.
