2023 Charity Partners

Each year, the Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout chooses a charity partner to be the beneficiary of the tournament’s proceeds. Since the first El Dorado Shootout held in 2015, the tournament has donated over $202,000 to various charity partners.

This year, we continue to support several charity partners with one common cause: the fight against breast cancer. Supporting these organizations including, #teamcorrie Cancer Foundation, Susan G. Komen and the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, impacts women’s health and breast cancer initiatives nationwide, statewide and locally. Along with receiving publicity, media coverage and increased exposure the organizations will also receive a donation that will be presented at the tournament’s Closing Ceremony on Sunday, September 24.

#teamcorrie Cancer Foundation

The #teamcorrie Cancer Foundation was created in honor of the late Corrie Jo Gross Bechtelheimer and her dream of helping local cancer warriors. #teamcorrie’s mission is to provide one-time grants to cancer patients residing in Union County, Arkansas, to assist with medical expenses incurred during cancer treatments. In addition to grants, #teamcorrie makes and donates yarn character wigs to children experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatments.

Even with insurance, cancer is costly. Cancer warriors and their families can be devastated physically, emotionally, mentally, and financially. People with cancer can often be faced with difficult decisions when it comes to being able to afford their medication, treatments, and day-to-day expenses. Since the inception of the Foundation, #teamcorrie has given over $290,000 in grants to over 241 cancer patients and has donated over 1,300 wigs to children in need.

Thanks to community support and the Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout, in 2023, #teamcorrie was able to raise their grant amount from $1,500 per applicant to $2,000. The increased grant amount will allow #teamcorrie to make more of an impact when helping individuals with cancer in Union County.

#teamcorrie will hold their 11th annual Paint the Town Pink 5K Color Walk/Run, in downtown El Dorado on Saturday, September 30 to kick off October Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Susan G. Komen logo

Susan G. Komen

In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became the Susan G. Komen® organization and the beginning of a global movement. Susan G. Komen is the world’s largest breast cancer organization and only organization addressing breast cancer on multiple fronts such as research, community health, global outreach, and public policy initiatives. Susan G. Komen’s mission is to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.

Susan G. Komen knows that research is one of our best weapons against breast cancer. Since 1982, Komen has funded nearly 1.1 billion in breast cancer research, in hopes to fulfil their vision and promise of a world without breast cancer.

Susan G. Komen has invested more than $2.32 billion in education, screening and treatment, serving millions of people in over 60 countries worldwide. Because of these efforts, Komen has helped to contribute to a 42% decline in breast cancer mortality rates in the U.S. since 1989.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, with someone being diagnosed every 2 minutes. In 2022, Komen invested $7.7 million in community health programs to ensure people have access to screening and diagnostic exams, high-quality care and support services. In addition, Komen connected more than 26,000 individuals with breast cancer information, screening and diagnostic services, financial assistance and emotional support through its Patient Care Center. Despite these efforts, it is estimated that 44,000 people will die from breast cancer this year alone, which is why Komen will not stop until its promise is fulfilled.
