Families given opportunities to form connections with top women golfers
EL DORADO, Ark. (July 13, 2023) – Many of the women who compete in the 2023 Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout presented by PepsiCo from Sept. 18-24 will rely on local host families for accommodations during the tournament and organizers are calling for volunteers to host players while they compete at Mystic Creek Golf Club.
“Host homes help the women who are just getting started on their road to the LPGA by providing a home away from home and helping them save money on the cost of a hotel,” said Tournament Director Courtney Crotty Kelley. “These women bond with the families they stay with, and many of those relationships continue after the tournament ends.”
The Rosses have been hosting golfers since 2017 and love the experience.
“Hosting a player is not only a way for us to support their financial needs but engage with the event at a deeper level and connect the players to what’s special about our hometown of El Dorado: warm welcoming families and southern hospitality,” the Rosses said. “As much as we give of our time and our home, we feel like we get an equal if not richer reward in return. It’s exciting to see players graduate to the next level, win tournaments, and have success. We have become their fans, rooting them on in future competitions.”
While tournament play officially starts on Sept. 22 and runs through Sept. 24, volunteers are asked to open their homes starting Sept. 18 so golfers have time to acclimate and practice on the course, considered by many to be the toughest on the circuit, Crotty Kelley said. The tournament boasts a total purse of $225,000 and is part of the Epson Tour, which is the official qualifying tour for the LPGA Tour.
Tournament regulations require host homes to be located within a 45-mile radius of Mystic Creek Golf Course. Host families are not expected to provide meals, but they are appreciated by the players.
